The workplace gift guide
Office Secret Santa ideas that work for the whole team
A workplace exchange should feel easy to join. Agree the rules before the draw, give each person a way to share clues and keep the surprise away from the office chat.

Set a comfortable limit
Ask whether colleagues want to take part before drawing names. Set a clear maximum and say whether postage is included. A £10 or £25 limit works only if everyone can take part comfortably; opting out should be simple and free of pressure. For remote colleagues, agree how and when gifts will be delivered.
Give people better clues
A short wish list with three or four ideas at different prices helps more than a generic question about favourite colours. Invite people to mention interests, dietary restrictions and things to avoid, but do not ask them to share private addresses in a group-wide note. A voucher or a book can be a sensible choice when tastes are uncertain.
Pick something suited to work
Desk accessories, a puzzle, a reusable lunch item or a small food treat can work when you know the recipient's habits. Check whether the office allows candles, plants or strongly scented items. A joke gift is risky if you do not know the person well. Choose something they can take home and actually use.
Keep the draw private
Send each person their own invitation rather than publishing assignments in a shared channel. If colleagues should not draw someone in their household or their manager, agree exclusions before the draw. After buying, keep receipts and delivery confirmations outside the group conversation.
Have a backup plan
Someone may leave the team, be absent on exchange day or receive a duplicate. Choose a date with room for delivery and agree who will handle any unclaimed present. Gift reservations can help buyers coordinate without showing the recipient what has been bought.
